A day of newness.

Good evening!

Welcome to my first ever blog post! I am very excited as I have been meaning to start a blog for quite a while and never knew where to start so today I decided to include it as part of my day of newness.

Lately I have been trying out a few new things as I am on a mission to make the world a little better. First of all I read the wearewhatwedo book 'change the world for a fiver' that my house mate had left lying around and I felt inspired; it is jam packed full of tips and small changed you can make in your life as well as funny anecdotes that make it a very enjoyable read.

So far I have given blood, starting walking to get my shopping rather than getting delivery, buying fair trade when I can and most recently I have been trying out some of the vegetarian products available at my local supermarket.

Now all of this leads into my 'day of newness' which quite unfittingly is the last day of November. As a trainee teacher I found myself with the day off as the teachers unions are striking and I hadn't got a clue what to do with myself. During the standard perusing of my facebook news feed I noticed that a friend of mine had also started her own blog, which you can find here, all about her search for the perfect 21st birthday dress in the beautiful city of York in which we live! And now here I am :) writing my very first blog! Step 1 in the day of newness. While I was stretching my involvement within the internet I came across step 2 of my newness plan; I decided to update my twitter account that I never use, so you can now follow me at https://twitter.com/#!/JD_xx

The final step in my newness plan was to actually go through with an idea my house mate Leah and I had. Whilst enjoying some shopping in the lovely city of York we remembered our amazing Good Deed idea! We wanted to go and buy lunch and a hot drink for a homeless man that we had walked past numerous times to and from the train station. I remember walking past one evening and a couple had bought him a McDonalds from round the corner and he looked so happy and grateful for their kindness. Leah had already kindly donated a cereal bar to an Italian lady during her travels to Venice and we thought we could spread the love in York too. So off we went to Greggs and bought a pasty and a hot chocolate for our feed the homeless mission. However it was all about to go terribly wrong... the homeless man was not in his usual position and despite walking around the streets of York in the freezing cold we were unable to find anyone else to give our food to. Sad and dejected we returned home, threw away the hot chocolate and the pasty is now sat in my fridge. Its the thought that counts though right? :)

Phew, blogging is definitely not as easy as it looks! I'd like to quickly mention a few of the amazing blogs that I read and have inspired me to start my own...
